Democratic super PAC Progress Action Fund and Congressman Eric Swalwell Partner to Promote New Ad for NY-03 Special Election

Los Angeles – Today, Progress Action Fund and Congressman Eric Swalwell announced a partnership to promote ads in battleground races  for the 2024 election cycle. This follows the new release of “Keep Republicans Out of Your Hospital,” paid for by Progress Action Fund that will run for the NY-03 special election on February 13. The ad is a sequel to Progress Action Fund’s viral and critically acclaimed ads “Keep Republicans Out Of Your Bedroom” and “Republicans Watching Your Daughter.” All three ads, which will run on streaming services, connected TVs, and on online platforms, is part of an initial $250,000 buy, which is paid for by Progress Action Fund.

“When it comes to messaging in political ads, too often Democrats are too nice and too wonky. Since 2020, my creative team and I have produced viral ads that speak to the heart — rather the heads — of potential voters,” said Congressman Eric Swalwell. “For this consequential election, Joe and the Progress Action Fund team have created equally hard-hitting, compelling ads. Partnering to promote these types of ads will ensure we communicate to voters exactly what’s at stake and what we must all do.”

“Voters in NY-03 will make it clear on February 13 that they do not want creepy, unhinged Republicans invading their bedrooms, their doctor’s office, or their personal lives in any shape or form,” said Joe Jacobson, Founder of Progress Action Fund.

The NY-03 special election, which will take place on February 13, would only allow Republicans to lose votes on legislation should Democrat Tom Suozzi win the election. His opponent, Republican Mazi Melesa Pilip, has publicly declared her support for Donald Trump and his agenda should he win the nomination. Despite Trump’s failure to repeal Obamacare and the associated defeats at the ballot box in 2018, the former president has unambiguously announced his intentions to try again. House Speaker Mike Johnson also has a long history of working to repeal Obamacare, putting out a 57-memo on his plan to kill the ACA when he was Republican Study Committee Chair in 2019.

On the issue of abortion, Mazi Melesa Pilip is self-described “pro-life” and if elected, will be indebted to the far-right extremists like Mike Johnson who will have bankrolled her campaign. Johnson is very clear of his intentions on reproductive rights, supporting legislation that would put women in doctors in prison for abortion, and stating that Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood are causing an “American Holocaust.”

At the top of the ticket, Donald Trump is simultaneously taking credit for appointing the justices who overturned Roe v. Wade, while also condemning state level abortion bans, which has sparked criticism from his Republica “rivals.” This dynamic creates a difficult tight rope for Republicans to walk in 2024, as while two-thirds of all voters oppose the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, two-thirds of Republicans support the decision.

Numerous experts from across the political spectrum praised the ad, including Larry Sabato, Joy Reid, Leland Vittert, Geraldo Rivera, and Nicolle Wallace, who said the ad should be an instant finalist for the “political ad hall of fame.”
