Los Angeles, CA –A new national survey of registered voters conducted by PPP shows a clear breaking point on ICE funding after the killing of Renee Good. By a 54–33 margin, voters support changes to ICE that require arrest warrants, ban agents from wearing masks during arrests, and restore six months of training, up from the current 47 days. When asked whether voters would support pausing ICE funding until these reforms are met, voters say they would support it by a 50-41 margin. When asked about a potential shutdown, independent voters side with lawmakers willing to keep the government closed until ICE is changed, over those insisting ICE remains the same, by 16 points, 51-35.
This sentiment exists alongside broader political headwinds for Republicans. Voters disapprove of President Trump’s job performance by eight points (52–44) and favor Democratic candidates for Congress by eight points on the generic ballot (50–42). After wall-to-wall coverage of a fatal ICE shooting of a U.S. citizen in Minneapolis, voters are appalled by ICE’s performance by double digits (53–43), reinforcing the sense that the agency has lost public trust.
“Voters are done with this shit,” said Joe Jacobson, Executive Director of Progress Action Fund. “Americans are telling us loud and clear they’re disgusted with ICE attacking and terrorizing US citizens, and they want Democrats to fight back, not just knuckle under again.”
The survey was conducted January 13–14, 2026 (before the murder of Alex Pretti), among 597 registered voters nationwide. Full results, crosstabs, and methodology are available upon request.
